One way to compare Heidegger and Foucault is through an examination of
power. Heidegger looks at the way being has power in its dealing with the general state of existence, and how that power is taken away with inauthenticity. Foucault looks at power as having knowledge, and how that power is taken away when institutions have knowledge of subjects and use that knowledge to control the subject. Both involve an externalization of power from individuals.
