The Old Weird America was the mythic characteristics of the past that became the subject matter of the folk music and blues tradition. This tradition was a wellspring for Bob Dylan in his songwriting as he shifted from covering folk songs to doing his own material. It reveals the personality of America that can not be pinned down in history textbooks. It also demonstrates that the greatness of the country is not the exclusive domain of jingoistic nationalism.
