The origins of President Bush's ideology was shaped by the
discontent he had during the 1960's as a college student. He mistook the progressive ideals of the counterculture on the college campuses for an elitism and self-indulgence that he was personally offended by. He then took that mistaken appearance and coupled that with the inherent conservative opposition to the 1960's in order to win the presidency backed by neoconservative thought that shaped his policies.
